“Ole” is a good thing when it comes to rock. “Lonesome” is an even better thing when it comes to blues. Ole Lonesome is an exceedingly good thing when it comes to Texas-based blues/rock. Their recent new release, Tejas Motel, delivers jet propulsion-level energy to the songs they perform. There’s a swagger that these songs get just right.
Born in the oil swamps of Beaumont, Texas, and raised on the blues, Ole Lonesome is a blue collar swamp rock band with its ear tuned to the past and boots to the future. With their love of tone and electric live performances, Zachary Feemster (vocals and guitar), J. Wesley Hardin (bass), Gregory Mosley (keys), Jimmy Devers (drums), and Greg Achord (guitar) look to recreate the colors of decades gone and take their music through the stratosphere. Ole Lonesome joined label head/co-producer Mike Zito at Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana, to record the new album.
Never lacking as a source of artistic stimulation, the Texas landscape inspired the band’s album title. Each song on the recording was motivated by the real Tejas Motel in Dallas. The stories, characters, and voices that interweave with powerful instrumentation make the location almost mythological. There is an attention to detail in conveying the atmosphere that transcends the usual blues collection. The drive of the guitars, interwoven with the searing vocals, results in an intensity and a heat that is palpable.
