On his latest release, pianist and keyboardist Sam Ross turns the Mira Room into an intimate, energetic experience as he fills the space with verbs and reverbs that soothe and scintillate. Judging from the live audience response on the album, they agree with me. (That an audience representation takes up the majority of the space on the stylish album cover reminds one of how highly the artist holds the listeners.)
The album, produced impeccably and featuring all original material composed by Mr. Ross, is a five track collection that fulfills its seeming ambition to show just how the right trio can do it all. Playing along are the equally inspiring Simba Distis (on bass) and Dr. Dimmi Mured (on drums). These guys are a tight-yet-loose, highly structured-yet-free, solid-yet-flexible triumvirate. Bravo!
