New Blues: Will James — ‘Sundancer’

There’s no escape from the reflective quality of the pure truth in Will James’ latest album, Sundancer. Give it a listen and see if it doesn’t make total sense to you on a deep, possibly secret, level. Is it the instantly trustworthy material, the nuanced instrumental performances, or the charismatic persona of Mr. James that is most responsible for the sublime listening experience? Hard to tell, for this is an ensemble effort that is almost circular in form.

The album was written, and composed by Will James, who also contributes guitar and vocals. It is produced by John Wooler and engineered/mixed by Sam Madill. Musicians include: Jon Gilutin (organ & keyboard), Randy Jacobs (rhythm guitar), Nathan Brown (bass), Sergio Gonzalez (drums), Dan McKonkey (saxophone), and Tim Quicke (trumpet).

Will James has a delivery that invites and tempts, that confesses and wounds. He is capable of everything and more, and this collection of songs is a thrilling beginning to him as instrument.
