New Modern Country: Brock Davis — ‘Everyday Miracle’

The trustworthiness factor in country music cannot be stressed enough. You hear one verse and either you have faith that it’s an instrument telling the truth… or you don’t. Listening to Brock Davis reminds one of this ineffable gut feeling, for his is a voice that inspires freedom from any suspicion whatsoever. Couple that with songs that inspire confidence (such as the track on his latest album, Everyday Miracle) and you understand the true meaning of the phrase “blessed assurance.”

If this is country music, it deserves its own subgenre—country music for the thinking, feeling, aspirational country music lover. The approach to the material is matched with thoughtful arrangements that guarantee the essence of the song lingers well beyond when the playing os over. Bravo to the meticulous production team of Brock and co-producer Zach Allen for aiming for such high standards (and achieving them). The 13-song album is subtitled (Backstage Sessions – Part 1) and contains the first half of a set of songs Brock and his band recorded at Nashville’s Backstage Studio over the course of two intense days. Part 2 will be released in early 2025.

It’s nice to have something to look forward to. In the meantime, enjoy two of my favorites on the album. And when you get the album (release date July 26, 2024), give “Angela (Please Say Yes).” This is why we never give up… even on country music.
