When a song is that catchy, when the featured musicians that inspiring, and when the lead vocal is that inviting, you just find yourself grateful for whoever invented the “repeat” button on the CD player. Such was my response to “(Feels Like) I Just Got Started”—the opener on Jimmy Carpenter‘s new album, Just Got Started. Call me crazy, but I enjoy a good groove that makes me smile.
The album’s new contemporary blues songs are given a timeless, soul style. It makes for an instantly affable listening experience. From the first note, until the last—about 48 minutes that breeze by—Jimmy Carpenter and his fellow musicians create one seductive vibe after another.
Musicians: Jim Pugh (keys), Derrick D’mar Martin (drums/percussion), Jerry Jemmott (bass), Bobby Vega (bass/guitar), Endre Tarczy (piano), Mike Galisatus (trumpet), Jack Sanford (baritone sax), Lisa Andersen, Dwayne Morgan, Walter Morgan & James Morgan (background vocals).
