“This new Johnny Rawls album is called Make Them Dance and that’s what it’s going to make you do.”
— Johnny Rawls
No matter how many albums the incredibly dependable Johnny Rawls releases, it’s never enough, especially since the favorite is always the most recent recording. Once again that is the case with his latest, Make Them Dance, a rich smorgasboard of songs that will feed your craving for blues and keep your soul nourished for as long as required.
The album, released April 1 on Catfood Records, comprises 10 rhythmic tracks that showcase Rawls’s natural style and charisma, as well as some of the finest musicians around. Along with Rawls on rhythm guitar: Will McFarlane – guitar; Steve Potts – drums; Bob Trenchard – bass; Dan Ferguson – keyboards; Andy Roman – sax solos; Mike Middleton – trumpet; Nick Flood – baritone/tenor/alto sax; Frank Otero – trombone; with guests Claton Ivey on keys, Jamie McFarlane on bass, Justin Holder on drums, and background vocals by Kimberly Horton and Trinecia Butler.
Make Them Dance delivers time-tested soul, R&B, and blues, with an energy that makes the music fresh and exciting… and imminently danceable. Bravo to the late Grammy-winning producer Jim Gaines. This album is a worthy addition to his esteemed collection of musical works.
