Blues singer and harmonica player Tim Gartland has released his latest album, Right Amount of Funky. This is his sixth solo album and with it, he delivers a laid-back style that is instantly alluring. The stories told in song are observant and entertaining.
Accompanying Gartland are Robert Frahm (guitar), Jody Nardone (keyboards), Mike Joyce (bass), and Jack Bruno (drums). They are an ensemble with a fine sense of agreement about what each song is, and how the time playing it should be shared. It’s an effortless group effort. Co-producer Andy Peake contributes percussion and backing vocals alongside Nalani Rothrock, Jolie Grace Wareham, and Dennis Drummond. Tim composed all tracks on the album, with Karen Leipziger co-writing two songs.
If you like your blues uber cool and your harmonica raw and heated, you’ll love this album.
