Al Basile, an eight-time Blues Music Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and cornetist, will release his new album, Blues in Hand, through Sweetspot Records on October 9th. The recording finds Al Basile focusing on his vocal and cornet performance as he explores the songs with layers that are deep and personal. Allowing his horn to take a bit more time than usual, Basile’s nuanced interpretative skills on cornet are equally as effective as his strong storytelling vocals.
Following the 2023 retrospective B’s Time, Al Basile is presenting new material with a new production team. The album was recorded with Duke Robillard and Roomful of Blues veteran musicians by Jack Gauthier at Westlake Recording studio in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, with mixing and mastering by Glenn Halverson at Sonic Hill Studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The approach blends traditional recording methods with modern technology.
An underlying theme in these tracks is a quality we have come to expect of Al. Basile—invention. He does not disappoint, either in voice, musical structure, or point of view. Throughout, the album showcases the consistent cohesion of the ensemble. The band includes guitarist Kid Andersen, along with Mark Teixeira, Brad Hallen, Bruce Bears, Doug James, and Doc Chanonhouse.
