Live At Joe’s Pub, the new album from Lizzy & the Triggermen, would have made Joe Papp (whom the pub is named for) very happy. Why? Because it’s so good that it will likely inspire you to get out and listen to some live music. That’s about the nest you could say for a live album—that it makes you wit=sh you were there the night it was recorded.
Luckily, the album captures it all. With 23 tracks (including song introductions), it delivers an entire performance worth of eclectic song choices and varying moods. One of the highlights is “When That Man Is Dead And Gone,” an often overlooked 1941 song by Irving Berlin that deserves the impassioned performance that it gets here.
Musicians: Lizzy Shaps (vocals) , Gordon Au (trumpet), John Allred (trombone), Nate Ketner (alto/clarinet), Ricky Alexander (tenor/bari/clarinet), Luca Pino (guitar), Anthony Ty Johnson (drums), Gary Wicks (upright bass), Chris Dawson (piano), Bobby Hawk (violin), Mixed by: Keith Munson, Recorded by: Jon Shriver, Mastered by: Brian Lucey.
