New Country: Trace Nixon — ‘Hand Me Down Name’

If the songs on this EP sound vaguely familiar, it’s a very good thing. It could be because, with his debut EP Trace Nixon embodies an appreciation for the most recent glory days of traditional country music. He captures the essence of George Strait delivering an Alan Jackson song with all of the earnestness of a just starting out Garth Brooks. At the same time, he establishes his own persona, his own appealing personality, his own sense of humor, with his own soothing vocals, which blend perfectly with the other instruments. This is an auspicious debut which bodes well, not just for Trace Nixon, but also for the future of country music.
