New Single: Don McLean — “American Boys”

He’s one of the great chroniclers of American cultural history. His powerful voice crystallizes moments we’ve lived with political, social, and economic history that frames it. The interplay between them is captured in McLean’s chords and lyrics, and made clear in his enduring songs. And, lucky us, he’s got more to sing about these days.

Grammy-award honoree, Songwriters Hall of Fame member, and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Don McLean is excited to announce his next studio album, American Boys, which will be released on May 17th by BFD/Audium Nashville and distributed exclusively through The Orchard. The album is available for preorder today, along with the title track, which features Home Free. Paying tribute to his rock and roll heroes, McLean’s new single honors those who paved the way. With thirteen original tracks, American Boys is what Don McLean fans have been waiting for.

The single, “American Boys,” written by Don McLean and Vip Vipperman, features the guys from Home Free, is a fun song about the “boys” who invented rock and roll. If the track seems a light diversion from the world McLean is writing songs about, I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that there are weightier songs on their way when the full album is released.
