Jeff White — ‘Right Beside You’

For years, producer, musician, songwriter, and singer Jeff White has performed alongside artists including Vince Gill, Loretta Lynn, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless and Lyle Lovett—to name just a few—but on ‘Right Beside You,’ he is in the center of the spotlight. This time, it is the other artists who are “right beside” White; artists like Charlie Cushman, Alison Krauss, Barry Bales, Shawn Camp, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, Vince Gill, Ronnie McCoury, Michael Cleveland, Del McCoury, Bekka Bramlett, Cheryl White, Laura Weber Cash, and The Chieftains.

Jeff White brings an inviting folk and soft rock sensibility to these bluegrass songs. Or is it that he brings a pure bluegrass sensibility to these solid songs that benefit acoustic treatment? Whatever the case, his taste in material is infallible and his penchant for choosing just the right supporting musicians and instrumentation is equally impeccable.

And it doesn’t get any better than Jeff White sharing the mic with Del McCoury on the Bill Monroe song, “Travelin’ this Lonesome Road.” Suddenly a subgenre of music that sometimes feels like it reaches back to a time before country music began finds itself singing a song as if it were a happy family reunion, with four or five generations present.
