New Blues: The Mighty Orq — ‘Love In A Hurricane’

The Mighty Orq — Love In A Hurricane

The Mighty Orq is a mightily talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with a focus in the American roots music genres. However he got his nickname, it surely has something to do with his skills. On his new album, Love In A Hurricane, he shares just about every facet of that talent. He recently made it to the finals in the 2016 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis sponsored by the Blues Foundation, and this collection of songs illustrates why. He plays just about every possible style of blues equally well, all while matching it with soulful vocals that could stand on their own.

Produced by The Mighty Orq and Josh Applebee, Love in a Hurricane features his regular touring band: The Mighty Orq (vocals, electric, acoustic, resonator, cigar box and Weissenborn guitars); Jimmy Rose (drums, percussion, mandolin); Barry Seelen (organ, piano, accordion); and Terry Dry (bass). The album mostly contains original material, and it is with these tracks that The Mighty Orq shines brightest.

Essential Downloads: “Sweet In Between,” “Love In A Hurricane,” “You’re In Love (That’s Alright).”
