Owen Campbell — ‘Breathing Bullets’

Breathing Bullets, the new album from Australian blues singer/songwriter Owen Campbell was produced by Devon Allman of The Allman Brothers family tree. In case that wasn’t enough,  Grammy winner Tom Hambridge mixed and mastered it. This collection of tunes(which blends rock ‘n’ roll, soul, and country with the blues) was recorded in Memphis and you can feel it in every note.

Campbell’s gritty vocals have the authority of few others; if he sings it, it seems impossible that he has not already experienced it firsthand. Deliver that gift via the Allman passion for good music and you get an album as solid (and entertaining) as Breathing Bullets. Mention must be made of the guitar work throughout the album. It is pretty spectacular.

Perhaps the album’s title was born of exasperation or disappointment, but the product itself is quite a reward.
