When facing the ever-constant stack of CDs requesting to be reviewed on my desk, I do not always reilsh the task. On occasion, a newly released album might slip by with no attention paid to it. But the goal is to bring some notice to the most deserving music, and that is what brings us to this review. If you love great songs, played at just the right tempo, shared by just the right musicians, then you are in luck…
Songwriters Marc Jordan and Amy Sky are highly-acclaimed and commercially successful. Everyone knows that. What you might not know is that their own performances as impressive as the well-known artists they’ve worked with… artists such as Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Chicago, Olivia Newton-John, Heart, Reba McEntire, Joe Cocker, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, to name just a few
On He Sang She Sang (available on the label Linus Entertainment) they deliver touching duet versions of some of the greatest songs around. The album is a blend of classic songs (Tom Petty’s “Free Falling,” The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” Smokey Robinson’s “Ooh Baby Baby,” Willie Nelson’s “You Were Always On My Mind,” and Bonnie Raitt’s “You”) and original material (five new Sky/Jordan compositions).
The effortless, inviting vocals of Marc Jordan and Amy Ryan blend perfectly. They are a fusion of styles and intensities that create emotionally logical, musically seamless, discoveries in this solid material. Let’s hope they get the attention they deserve for such a satisfying listening experience. The production (produced and arranged by themselves) is equally as stunning.
