New Blues: Soulful Femme — ‘Attitude’

Not since the great Patti LaBelle shared news of having a “new” one has anyone given such meaning to the lyric “attitude.” Welcome to the latest release from Soulful FemmeAttitude—what else? It’s one of the most consistently entertaining albums released lately.

Soulful Femme (Stevee Wellons and Cheryl Rinovato) know what it means to release, alright. The album (produced by blues Albert Castiglia) is one freeing exclamation after another. This isn’t just more blues or more soul—it’s a rescue mission from the blues, resulting in a healing of the soul.

Besides Rinovato and Wellons, the musicians on this collection include: drummer Michael Bram, bassist Matt Reynol, Dave Gross on Hammond organ and tambourine, Doug Woolverton on trumpet, and Mark Earley on tenor saxophone. Special guests include Tommy Castro and Kevin Burt.

Soulful Femme promises to be one of those acts that really deliver in live performances. They clearly have such undeniable chemistry that it comes across on this recording.
