New Country (Single): Hudson Macready — “Rise Again”

Sometimes the sound of a trustworthy voice, singing calming words of wisdom, are just what’s needed. This is the case with Hudson Macready and his new song, “Rise Again.” It’s a message of hope that speaks directly to those affected by the destructive wildfires that ravaged Southern California earlier this year. Like a good country song, it applies to other situations, throwing light and optimism universally.

Hudson Macready. Remember that name. If you’re reading this, you’re going to be able to say that you’re one of the country music lovers who noticed his talent early on. His voice is clear, strong, flexible, and adept at telling a story, and his songwriting skills are completely natural. Listening to a song he’s written is a one-on-one experience. There is power in his subtle delivery, sung directly, and punctuated by an occasional arched eyebrow that conveys how carefully he has chosen the right words to convey exactly what he means. Watching him perform, it becomes clear that Hudson has put a lot of thought into his material. We might be hearing a song for the first time, but I’m guessing it’s not the first (or second or third) version. This bodes well for the future of country music, for Hudson Macready is destined to be part of its evolving story. I already trust him to be one of the greats, those respected, and eventually revered artists who maintain the integrity of the hallowed “three chords and the truth” that keeps country music alive and well.
