Hyeon Chung, who beat 18-year-old Tommy Paul Wednesday, has reached his second career ATP World Tour quarterfinal. The win by the 19-year-old Korean marks the fourth time a teen has reached this tournament’s quarterfinals since it moved to Houston in 2001 (Andy Roddick – 2001 and 2002, Ryan Harrison – 2012).

Chung was last year’s ATP World Tour Most Improved Player of the Year, and his shotmaking on the clay court Wednesday night showed that his technique continues to progress. American Tommy Paul put up quite a fight, determined to win in front of the supportive Houston crowd. In the third set, Paul took many risks which may have been necessary in order to attempt to win the match, but it resulted in Paul making just a few too many errors. All of which can be blamed on Chung’s ability to return almost anything that Paul sent his direction.

Chung will face top seed John Isner in the quarterfinals.
