The question tonight is: which Tony awards won’t the Broadway juggernaut, Hamilton, take home? Among the Broadway theater industry, Hamilton fatigue is very real. But it won’t stop the show from winning most of the evening’s trophies, because even the fatigued voters figure that their vote in the direction of another nominee will be pointless. They’re probably right.
Even though nominee Lin Manuel Miranda is unlikely to win the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Hamilton will still take home a Tony in that category; Miranda’s co-star Leslie Odom, Jr., who plays Hamilton’s nemesis, Aaron Burr, is considered the superior performance. Hamilton fans will have to be satisfied knowing that Mr. Miranda will win the awards for Best Score and Best Book. Those prizes are handed out during the pre-telecast, which means that fans eager to see him step to up the podium will have to wait until the end of the night, when the show wins Best Musical.
