New Bluegrass: Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver — ‘Life Is A Story’

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver — Life Is A Story

Label: Mountain Home Music Company (release date 8/25/17)

With a sturdy, sweet harmony that rushes by like a summer breeze just when you need it most, the new album from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver is a refreshing reminder of why I consider bluegrass to be the most consistently dependable genre of music around. Just when you thought all the great bluegrass albums were in the past, here it is.

Produced by Doyle Lawson and recorded in Sparta, Tennessee, the album features Lawson (Lead and Baritone Vocals, Mandolin, Mandola), Josh Swift (Resophonic Guitar, Acoustic Lead Guitar, Percussion); Joe Dean (Banjo, Guitar); Dustin Pyrtle (Lead and Tenor vocals, Guitar); Eli Johnston (Lead and Baritone vocals, Bass) and Stephen Burwell (Fiddles).

Life Is A Story is a collection of songs—each one of them true and wonderful in their own right—that, once assembled take on a deep meaning through their shared proximity. In other words, these may be great songs, but together they make an even greater album. Or “story,” if you will. There is a connection bewtween them that amplifies their heart and soul, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver capture their essence perfectly.

Essential Downloads: “Life Of A Hard Workin’ Man,” “I See A Heartbreak Comin’,” “Bluegrass Blues.”
