Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John
Thin, reedy, processed, synthetic, and lacking artistic point of view.
Please, Juliana, please. This has to be one of the most disappointing new releases in a long time. The Olivia Newton-John catalogue is strong enough to support any number of interpretations. But to karaoke it to death, with nothing more than almost-there vocals, leaves a lot to be desired.
The treasure trove of 1980s pop songs simply devours the spare 1990s talent. What should have been a match made in female pop/rock heaven is an exercise in “What’s the point?”
There is simply no… well, no magic.
