New Orleans R&B: Ted Hefko and the Thousandaires — ‘Gas Station Guru’

Ted Hefko and the Thousandaires — Gas Station Guru

Label: Onager Records

If you know what it means to miss New Orleans, then you’ll love this new release.

Gas Station Guru is the fourth album from the high energy roots and rhythm ensemble, Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires.  Recorded in Ted’s hometown of New Orleans, the album features guitarist Mem Shannon, who lends his distinctive style.  Pianist Sherman Bernard also adds his authentic New Orleans feel to the project.

Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires stir up an intoxicating brew of the profound and the profane, of virtue and vice and, most importantly, the volatile in-between. Ted’s songs bounce around musically, skipping like a stone on Lake Pontchartrain, through rhythm and blues, early jazz and folk music. The ripples they make linger in the best way, and after a song or two you’ll swear that you are back in the Crescent City. The Thousandaires—with Ted Hefko on vocals, guitar and tenor sax—bring stories to life with the spontaneity of jazz, the rough-hewn, bare-bones tone of backwoods folk songs and the raucous vibrancy of classic Louisiana sounds.

The good news is that these songs overflow with the warm atmosphere that deserve to be heard on vinyl. The even better news is that the album is available on vinyl. To purchase this album (on vinyl or CD), click here.
