Daryl Mosley – The Secret of Life
Label: Pinecastle Records
Release date: May 22, 2020
Grand Ole Opry veteran Daryl Mosley‘s new album, THE SECRET OF LIFE, is a comforting blend of country and bluegrass, with a bit of gospel that will soothe whatever your day brings (or your month, or 2020 so far, for that matter). Daryl Mosley is the Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year for both 2016 and 2017 by Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA).
His latest collection of songs is a pure listening experience. Nothing unnecessary, but full of hopeful and useful insights. This is musical storytelling with a purpose. My favorite track, “It Never Gets Old,” captures the essence of his songwriting strength, showcasing Mosley’s talent for finding the profound in what seems, at first, so simple. What it is, however, is a distillation of a thought, a moment, an emotion… if that were simple, well then we’d all be Songwriter of the Year winners.
Co-produced by Daryl Mosley with Danny Roberts, these eleven tracks offer a chance to bring a bluegrass festival into your home, since getting to one is very likely out for this summer. Joining Mosley (on bass) are a group of stellar musicians, each of whom are given plenty of opportunities to shine: Danny Roberts (mandolin), Adam Haynes (fiddle), Michael Stockton (Dobro), Tony Wray (guitar) and Aaron McDaris (banjo) with Irene Kelley, Jaelee Roberts and Jeanette Williams providing the sweet harmony vocals.
