New Blues: Albert Castiglia — I Got Love

Love has never sounded so sure of itself. When Albert Castiglia sings and plays, it’s guaranteed that he means what he plays and sings, and it’s equally guaranteed that through his searing performance you will understand his intentions completely. His new release (out March 22, 2022 on Gulf Coast Records) is an explosion of energy and fervor. Congrats to Mr. Castiglia (guitar and vocals), as well as to his producer, Mike Zito. The album features a strong lineup of musical talent, including Justine Tompkins (bass and vocals), Ephraim Lowell (drums and vocals) and Lewis Stephens (Hammond B3 organ and piano).

The songs on the album reflect the range of emotional passages in the evolution of an intense, ongoing relationship. Each track successfully evokes an inner dialogue or stirring thought process that prove that there is no more perfect manifestation of one’s spirit than good ol’ blues music. Each song scores a direct hit to the bullseye of the soul.

Although this is a consistently solid album, one of the definite highlights is “Long Haul Daddy.” It’s tour de force of guitar playing, and a whole lot of fun. Here’s hoping that Albert Castiglia rewards audiences at his live appearances with this as an encore. What a musician, and what a capturing of his impressive gifts on disc.
