If this album only had a single track, it would be enough. That track is “I Forgot To Be Your Lover,” a searing and caring reaching out, delivered with passion and hope, in spite of contrary past experiences. The song, written by William Bell and Booker Jones, gives plenty of vocal and emotional room to Jenny Langer and Bernard Fowler, and they fill it up — and then some! As if that weren’t enough — and it is — the rest of the album matches the artistic level. Especially with the masterful funky blues playing of Randy Jacobs.
The album (produced by John Wooler) delivers ten songs, of which all but two (“Big Legged Man” and “Powerful Notions”) are covers. The more familiar songs (which are all treated as if they were originals) include: “Mr. Alice Diesn’t Live Here Anymore.” “Ain’t Got The Fever Anymore,” and “Let’s Spend The Night Together.”
