New Blues: Jimmy Carpenter — ‘The Louisiana Record’

Label: Gulf Coast Records

Release Date: 9/16/22

“The Louisiana Record is my tribute to the mash-up of Blues, Soul, Rhythm & Blues, and Rock-n-roll that is New Orleans Music.” (Jimmy Carpenter)

Blues Music Award-winning sax player Jimmy Carpenter will soon release his highly anticipated new album, The Louisiana Record. The title says it all. It’s a highly entertaining collection of covers (featuring songs you know and love by Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino, Dr. John, and others), all with a Louisiana theme. More specifically, New Orleans… especially when it comes to the luxurious treatment the soulful “All These Things” is given.

It’s a set of no-frills performances, just as if you are hearing them played live. The instrumentation is svelte, which only heightens the smart choices of the players. Guest musicians include Mike Zito (guitar), John Gros (keyboards), Casandra Faulconer (bass), and Wayne Maureau (drums). And they’ve never sounded better, or more skilled at being a vital component of an even greater whole.
